Job/Career Title: |
musician, graphic and web designer |
Your job/career and what you actually do: |
I own a graphic and web design business called Raven's Eye Design, and that's been my profession for more than a decade.
I'm still figuring out how to be a full-time musician without creative compromise. |
Past Camps: |
Art Models, Cow Bus, Ismist, Pea Bear, Pyramid Scheme, Pole Cats... more than I can remember. |
Why Burning Man? Why are you going? |
It's magical. It's been part of my celebration of life for most of my adult life. |
Zodiac Sign: |
Gemini |
Zodiac Sign of Partner: |
Sagittarius |
How or where did you first hear about Burning Man? |
I heard about it through word of mouth while visiting San Francisco in 1994, then jumped on the Cow Bus at sundown and that was the beginning of much more to come. |
Volunteered with: |
Various art installations (but none of my very own), helped with assorted DPW functions over the years (but never officially joined)...
Built the web sites for the first couple of Toast! AZ Regional Burns as a volunteer. |
What would you do differently if you could go back in time from a past Burning Man experience: |
Nothing... everything is just as it should be in every moment. At least, I continually try to convince myself so. |
Where are you from? Where have you lived? |
Grew up in Michigan, lived in Phoenix for a few years, then in central Mexico for a year, then in Portland for a couple of years, then in Tucson for a decade. Basically. |
All About You |
I'm an intuitive, radically free-spirited freak happily residing in the desert while pursuing musical and other creative endeavors. I play trancy music on sax, wooden flutes, synths and other instruments. I like to wear a bird mask sometimes. I make a living as a graphic and web designer at Raven's Eye Design. I enjoy life and love people. |

Top 10 reasons to go to Burning Man:
(or as many as you can think of) |
1. It might renew your hope for humanity. 2. You might find you're not quite who you thought you were. 3. It's fun. 4. The art is amazing. 5. People tend to behave nicely there. 6. The social norms on the Playa are the opposite of the social norms most other places I've been: Creative participation is valued more highly than passive speculation. 7. Opportunities to connect in unique ways with a vast variety of folks abound there. 8. Playa dust is good for you. 9. You'll get plenty of Sun. 10. You'll get lots of exercise. |
Top 10 things you don't like about Burning Man:
(or as many as you can think of) |
It's a brutal, salty ordeal. |
BurningMan Experience: |
Lots. Probably too much. But I keep going back, over and over again. Well, I did for 13 years, anyway. I might be done now. But I know better than to say that for sure. |
BurningMan Tips & Tricks: |
Go with the flow, always. Don't try to plan what happens in your world on the Playa. Keep your water bottle, dust mask, goggles, and headlamp handy all the time, and keep your shoes on. |
Years you've gone to Burning Man and your "Burning Moments":
(these are when you say, "oh my god did you just see that" or when something unigue happened to you.)
|
1994: amazed, dazzled, loved it 1995: a bit disenchanted with the growing pains of the event 2000: amazed again, came back without judgment 2001: same as above 2002: same as above 2003: ditto 2005: even better yet, but thought I might not return nonetheless... 2007: enjoyed deeply, but intuitively knew this was it for a long time, if not for good. |
